Naval Special Operations Center: Soldiers of 73rd Marine Center killed in action

A group of Ukrainian soldiers from the 73rd Naval Special Operations Center was killed during the execution of a combat mission in clashes with Russian occupying forces, the Ukrainian Special Forces Command reported in the early hours of 29 February.

The 73rd Maritime Center also took part in the operation to liberate Zmiinyi (Snake) Island on 7 July 2022.

The soldiers reportedly operated at Tendra Spit, a long, narrow spit island in the northern part of the Black Sea, in Russian-occupied Kherson Oblast.

They conducted an operation to gain a foothold on the Tendra Spit and were killed while covering the withdrawal of the main forces of the group after completing a combat mission.

“The heroic and extremely difficult combat work of the Special Operations Forces units on land, at sea, and deep behind enemy lines is the daily contribution of the Special Operations Forces warriors to victory over the enemy (Russian occupying forces – ed.). Always remember at what price our freedom is being won,” the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said.

The 73rd Maritime Center is a part of the Special Operations Forces’ special intelligence. At the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, its fighters, along with other units of the Defense Forces and the police, prevented the landing of Russian troops at the Kulbakyne airfield in Mykolaiv.
