Ukraine invites Türkiye to join maritime coalition

During a meeting with Levent Bilgen, Türkiye’s new Ambassador to Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov proposed that Türkiye join the Maritime Coalition to enhance security in the Black Sea.

“We are grateful to Türkiye for supporting Ukraine from the first day of the full-scale invasion in ensuring the Black Sea’s security. We invite Türkiye to join the Maritime Coalition,” Umerov stated.

The meeting also included discussions about potential defense production cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Bilgen emphasized that Türkiye’s comprehensive support for Ukraine would continue.

The Maritime Coalition, an initiative led by the United Kingdom and Norway, focuses on countering Russian interference in maritime freedom, particularly impacting the operation of the Black Sea grain corridor. The coalition’s efforts aim to ensure unimpeded shipping and the continuation of crucial trade routes in the Black Sea.
