The Ukrainian Army has reported a successful strike on the Chonhar bridge, a crucial transport hub for the Russian occupation troops, on the morning of 29 July. After the recent explosion on the Kerch bridge, Chonhar became a major hub on Russia's alternative route to occupied Crimea.
The quisling Russian-appointed "chief" of Kherson Oblast Vladimir Saldo alleged this morning that Russian air defense systems shot down 12 Storm Shadow missiles that "tried to destroy the railroad between Kherson Oblast and Crimea." He claimed that all of them had been shot down, and falling wreckage caused only minor damage.
However, traffic jams that formed at the bridge cast doubt on Saldo's claims. Exchanges in local TG chats suggest that traffic was rerouted via an alternative route, through Armiansk, suggesting that the bridge in Chonhar was put out of order.
This bridge has been already hit earlier, on the morning of June 22. It is the road to the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently conducting an offensive.
Then, Operational Command South stated that the damage to the bridges in the Chonhar area would undermine Russian logistics.
