Ukraine Has Appealed to the UN to Convene an Urgent Meeting of the Security Council, Says PM Yatseniuk

May 22, 13:04

yats“We call on our partners in the Security Council of the United Nations to convene an urgent meeting of the Security Council,”  said Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk speaking to reporters on Thursday, May 22, at one of the military units near Kyiv.

“We will provide evidence that the Russian side has carried out attempts to escalate the conflict, causing bloodshed, and attempts to capture Ukrainian border застав frontier and to disrupt the presidential election,” said Yatsenyuk. He made it known that last night there was a fourth attempt to break through the state border of Ukraine with Russia: “From the Russian Federation three KAMAZ vehicles escorted by a Niva off-road vehicle tried to break through the state border of Ukraine.”

He said that the Ukrainian border guards repelled the attempts to break through the boundaries and immediately summoned the representatives of the Federal Border Service of Russia demanding that they ensure order from the Russian side. “Just when in Ukraine roundtables for national unity took place, and just as soon as we found at least some compromise, including the memorandum [on understanding and peace –Ed.], and just when as it became clear that the situation in eastern Ukraine altered – at once terrorists supported by Russia come, aggravate the situation, and provoke bloodshed,” said Yatsenyuk.

“I think that the statement of the Russian Federation on the withdrawal of troops from the Ukrainian border is a bluff. Even if the troops are departing, then with the direct assistance of Russian authorities breakthroughs across Ukraine’s border by armed terrorists who are trained in Russia are taking place,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that the police and the Security Service of Ukraine, after the arrests, received unequivocal evidence of training centers on the territory of military bases in Russia, “which then move into the territory of Ukraine.”

“Russia has not abandoned its goal,” said the Prime Minister.

Yatseniuk said that Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has sent a note to the Russian side, “that Russia provoked an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and continues supplying terrorists.”

The Prime Minister said that the presidential elections will be held, and the police and army provide law and order.

“War was declared to Ukraine. We accepted this challenge, and any attempts to disrupt the presidential race and capture Ukrainian territory are and will be unsuccessful,” said Yatseniuk.
