‎Ukrainian‬ border guards report movement of military hardware in Crimea on October 4. More Russian troops, hardware spotted near Mariupol and Donetsk airport

The State Border Service has spotted the movement of military hardware in Crimea near Chervonyi Chaban. The service said that the border guards in Kherson Region observed the movement of three tanks, two APCs and an Ural [lorry] on this occupied territory, 5 Kanal TV reported on 4 October. They also uncovered up to 10 tented pieces of hardware on the administrative border with Crimea between the Kalanchak-Armyansk motorway and a planted forest. Those were apparently tanks or APCs, the report said.

A large number of armor, heavy artillery and personnel as well as‪ Russians‬ operating unmanned aerial vehicles have been deployed near Donetsk airport and near Mariupol (Donetsk Oblast), the spokesman for the National Security and Defence Council, Andriy Lysenko, told a briefing broadcast live by the news-based 5 Kanal on 3 October at 12:30 Kyiv time.

“Non-stop fighting for Donetsk airport continues. Our reconnaissance detected the arrival of a significant number of armour, heavy artillery and personnel to the adjacent area. For aerial reconnaissance and fire control, Russians have deployed a whole unit of UAVs controlled by the Russian specialists to the area near the airport,” Lysenko said.

He noted that the airport remained under control of the Ukrainian forces despite continuing attacks by pro-Russia rebels.

He also said that Russian army units earlier stationed in Rostov Region and military hardware had been spotted in the vicinity of Mariupol, a port city on the Azov Sea. “In the southern direction outside Mariupol, our reconnaissance has registered the arrival of military hardware of the Russian Armed Forces. We also detected the arrival of Russian military units which had been earlier deployed in Rostov Region,” Lysenko said.

Ukrainian troops have destroyed six militants and their two mortars not far from Pervomaysk in ‪Luhansk‬ Oblast, 5 Kanal TV reported today at 6pm Kyiv time. The terrorists used Grad multiple-launch rocket systems to shell the town of Debaltseve.

The militants opened mortar fire on two Ukrainian coast guard boats not far from Shyrokyne and Bezimenne in Donetsk Oblast, a spokesman for the antiterrorist operation headquarters, Vladyslav Seleznyov, has told 5 Kanal.

He noted that the bandits were still firing on the positions held by Ukrainian servicemen in several population centers.

Ukrainian security service finds arms cache near Lysychansk

The Security Service of Ukraine has uncovered another cache with an arsenal of weapons and explosives for sabotage near Lysychansk, 5 Kanal TV reported at 14:30 today. The terrorists kept a grenade launcher, an antitank rifle, cartridges, optical sights and explosives buried in the ground.

The separatists wanted to blow up vital infrastructure facilities. The sites were marked on 18 maps. The militants prepared 10 km of cords and devices in order to blow them up from the distance. It was revealed that the attacks had been prepared by ‪Luhansk‬ Oblast residents on the instructions of self-proclaimed ‘Luhansk people’s republic’ militants.
