Putin, Merkel and Poroshenko conversed in France

Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the President Elect of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko spent several minutes conversing before the official breakfast in the name of the French President Francois Hollande in the French town of Doville, reports “Dozhd” correspondent.

After the traditional photo-shoot, the leaders of the countries that participated in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the joining of the Allied Powers in Normandy, headed for the palace for breakfast. On the way, Merkel, Putin and Poroshenko stopped and talked for several minutes, after which they continued walking.

At the official breakfast, to the left of the Russian President was the Duke of Luxembourg Henri, and to his right – the Queen of Denmark Margrete II, her neighbour to the right was Francois Hollande. Next to him sat the Queen of the United Kingdom and Great Britain Elizabeth II, next to her was US President Barack Obama.

Earlier this Friday, the Russian President and Chancellor of Germany dedicated their hour-long meeting to Ukraine. “Putin and Merkel fully concentrated on Ukrainian affairs, on the search for Ukrainian regulation,” reported the press secretary of the head of the Russian state Dmitry Peskov, who was present at the meeting. According to him, the meeting was dedicated to the discussion of differences in approach between Moscow and Berlin regarding Ukraine.

As has been reported, Putin does not have a meeting with Poroshenko planned during his visit to France. When talking about possible meetings with his colleagues in Normandy, Putin himself stated: “I am not going to run from anyone and will gladly speak with any of my colleagues.”

Earlier the European media have reported that Obama, Queen of England Elizabeth II and some other guests of the ceremony in Normandy unofficially expressed their unwillingness to sit with Putin at the guest booth.
