Leader of “People’s Militia of Donbass” detained In Donetsk

Monday, March, 24, 2014, 17:20

The leader of “People’s Militia of Donbas,” Mykhaylo Chumachenko has been arrested. The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) announced the arrest in a notice, along with the information that Chumachenko was detained by a Donetsk court’s order.

“He is charged a formal suspect of preparation for committing a crime under Articles 109 (act aimed at the violent overthrow or change the constitutional order or the seizure of state power) and 110 (assault on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the statement reads.

According to the SSU, the materials seized from the detainee demonstrate his intent to urge participants to illegal actions during a public event in Donetsk, including the use of force to seize the regional administration.

Also, the evidence shows that the detainee was planning to proclaim himself “the people’s governor.”

The court has yet to choose a form of pretrial detention for the detainee.
