The best way to reach central Kyiv from Boryspil airport

Photo: Kbp.aero

Boryspil International Airport (IATA is designated as KBP) is the main air gate of Kyiv and Ukraine. In 2018, the airport served 12.5 million people, which is almost 20% more than in the previous year. Over the past few years, KBP has shown positive growth in passenger traffic.

Boryspil Airport is named after the small but ancient city of Boryspil, located near the airport. The distance from Terminal D to Khreshatyk, the central street of Kyiv, is 35.4 km. Passengers have several ways of getting to Kyiv:

By public transport: bus, minibus, express train

This is the cheapest way, but not the most comfortable one. For example, if you take a bus or train from Boryspil airport to the Kyiv Central Railway Station, you will need to carry your suitcases along flights of stairs.

You can get to Kyiv’s South Railway Station from Boryspil airport by SkyBus buses in 50 minutes. The fare is just 100 UAH (about $3.7). The trip may take 1.5 – 2 hours. SkyBus buses leave from Terminal D every 15 minutes from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, at night buses run every 45 minutes.

The cheapest way to get from Kyiv to the airport is by minibus taxi or shuttle bus, which locals call the “marshrutka.” Usually, these are not all new and not always clean minibuses, which run along certain routes, both in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, and throughout Ukraine. You can get to Kyiv via a marshrutka through several stages. First, you need to take the minibus №2 or №3B, get to Boryspil, get off at the “Vul. Leninhradska” stop and take bus №317, which will take you to Kyiv metro station “Kharkivska.” The trip will cost around 40 UAH ($1.5). This is the cheapest but rather extreme way to travel, especially if you have large and heavy luggage.

Quite recently, the Kyiv Boryspil Express train began to run between the airport and Kyiv railway station. The train runs at intervals from 35 minutes to 1 hour (depending on the time of day). The ticket price is 80 UAH ($1.5). And the journey time is only 35 minutes. However, the express train is a new type of transport and has certain technical flaws. There were cases when, after a train breakdown, passengers had to drag their luggage along the rails.

On private road transport: taxis, cars of transport companies.

Ordering a private car for transfer from Boryspil Airport is the most popular way to get to Kyiv. This way combines comfort, individual service and, consequently, a higher cost compared to public transport.

Many taxi companies operate at the airport, each of which can offer services of different quality and at different prices. For example, at the airport you can use cars of the Ukrainian representative office of the world-famous service Uber. A transfer via this company will cost from 400 to 900 UAH ($15-$33). The cost will depend on the time of day and road congestion, as well as the distance from the airport to a specific area of Kyiv.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Uber is in many ways inferior to the quality of Uber in Europe and the USA. The condition of the cars and the driver’s professional qualities sometimes leave the customers with quite unpleasant memories.

The situation is similar with other taxi services. Drivers are often not neat, and car salons need airing and good cleaning. But the main problem is that most taxi drivers and dispatchers do not speak English. This may cause some inconvenience to customers. Due to communication problems, you may not come to the address you need.

The cost of a taxi at Boryspil Airport depends on the pricing policy of taxi companies and preferences of private drivers. If, when ordering online, the price of a taxi is usually fixed, then the price of transfer from private drivers on ordinary cars of Standard class can vary from 450 UAH up to 1200 UAH (from 17 to 44 dollars).

To avoid problems in communication and get quality service, you can order a transfer from Boryspol Airport to Kyiv from transport companies that specialize in services for foreign customers. One of them is Your Driver Company.

In Your Driver Company, you can order a transfer from Boryspil airport directly on the website yourdriver.com.ua. You can select the car class you are interested in (premium, business, standard and economy), fill in a simple and clear order form, send the completed form. Shortly, an English-speaking dispatcher will contact you and clarify the details. For example, the price of a transfer by a standard-class car is $29 or EUR 26, and a transfer by a luxury S-class Mercedes is $130 or EUR 118. Business class car transfers range from $36 to $75 (EUR 33 – EUR 68). After receiving the order, the price of the transfer in Your Driver Company never changes, there are no hidden fees.

If you value your time, comfort and safety, order transfers from the airport in Your Driver Company.
