Educating monsters: Russia’s new minister of education

The recent appointment of Russia’s new minister of education might interest our readers if only because the dismissed former minister Dmitry Livanov was immediately appointed by Vladimir Putin to the post of special presidential representative for economic relations with Ukraine.

This is a very strange position that at one time was created for Viktor Chernomyrdin specifically to emphasize that the former head  of the government of the Russian Federation was not just  any ambassador to Kyiv. He was a special envoy!

Mikhail Zubarov, Chermomyrdin’s successor, inherited the post of special representative in addition to the ambassadorship. And Livanov never became any ambassador. Until recently Mikhail Babich was being prepared for that post. It is understood that the situation where one official is the ambassador and the other one a special representative is not very normal. So it is quite possible that the Kremlin will attempt to gain agreement for Livanov’s candidacy — this time without any useless demonstrations — and send him to Kyiv. This is another reminder that the former minister of education is a simple functionary who works where he is sent. His main duty  was to reduce expenditures for education and science in a situation where the expenses for the army and nomenclature were going up. And he performed this task well.

His successor Olga Vasilyeva, a former employee in the administration of the president of Russia, appears to have another task — educating monsters. After all, the regime of the Kremlin crooks cannot feel confident as long a there are islets of free spirit in Russia, as long as young people do not understand all the grandeur of Putin’s plan, as long as there are questions about the history of the country, which was one of the most heinous empires of the past and which now regularly attempts to parody this past.

Olga Vasilyeva must restore this confidence to Putin and his henchmen. Officially, Vasilyeva is a great expert on issues pertaining to the relationship between church and state. Less officially, she is an ignorant bureaucrat, a convinced Stalinist, the epitome of stupidity, arrogance and ignorance. These are the people Putin needs. If Vasilyeva earlier expressed views that Stalin’s regime was the best period in the relations between church and state, then you can imagine what paradise on earth she envisions during the Putin period.

It is important to understand that in the current political situation in Russia it is not the minister of defense or of foreign affairs who turns out to be the key minister. Putin will not risk launching a major war. In foreign affairs he can achieve results only when he engages in military blackmail. Diplomats are not needed there.

What is needed is a minister of education who will actively engage in fooling future generations. A person who will be able to prove that the highest achievement of civilization and of the “Russian spirit” is when the king is naked and that those who mock the ruler’s shiny rear are CIA agents and Western mercenaries. And this is no exaggeration. In the public domain you can find quite a few speeches and articles by Vasilyeva that demonstrate her obscurantism better than any commentary. These works make it very clear that Vasilyeva is the Russian Tabachnyk in a skirt (Dmytro Tabachnyk was minister of education under Viktor Yanukovych– Ed.). After all, our local empire enthusiast headed up the Ministry of Education precisely at a time when the “Regionals” (Party of Regions, Russophile political party in Ukraine — Ed.) embarked on the actual dismantling of the Ukrainian state and the transformation of our country into a  Russian colony. They were still ashamed to say it out loud, but they were already getting ready to prepare the young people for it.

And based on their activity it is obvious that Vasilyeva as well as Tabachnyk are not living in a modern country. She continues to live in the Soviet Union, and the Stalinist period of its development generates her greatest emotion.  Her greatest exasperation is with those who “rejected the Soviet Union” and “exaggerated” the level of repression.

And it is this insane official who, with Putin’s blessing, is now trying to drag all of Russia into the abyss of the virtual Soviet Union.
