Centre employees have published an official statement on the site: The research centre at the Library of Foreign Literature no longer exists

“The Russian-Turkish Research Centre at the Library of Foreign Literature no longer exists. Courses in the Ottoman language have been cancelled and we can no longer assist graduate students and undergraduates. All our scheduled round-table discussions, lectures and conferences have been cancelled and we are not allowed to use our library fund. The reasons for the closure of the centre are unknown to us; please address all remarks to the library administration.”

Russia imposed sanctions against Türkiye after the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian fighter jet that violated Turkish airspace. The Russian decree bans the import of Turkish goods designated in an official government list, Turkish legal entities providing services and work on the territory of Russia, hiring or contracting Turkish citizens as of January 1, 2016 and selling “tourism products and visits to Türkiye” to Russian nationals. Charters between Russia and Türkiye have also been banned.
