Andriy Parubiy, the former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, is urging Ukrainian authorities to prepare for the most dangerous scenario. The likelihood of an unexpected attack by Russia remains high, he said on the TV program “Today” on TVi, November 5.

“I am convinced that the probability of a surprise attack by Russian troops remain high. And in analyzing the situation, as we always did at the National Security Council, we must constantly prepare not for the best scenario but for the most critical, most dangerous scenario. Therefore, I would not comfort myself with notions that, for example, in the winter (the Russians) will be mostly interested in freezing the situation and in keeping the status quo. Ukraine absolutely must strengthen (its defenses) in those directions where the enemy is likely to go. Then it will be a proactive strategy and the right strategy,” he said.
