As a result of today’s parliamentary elections the government will be revamped and a new stable pro-European majority will be created, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksandr Turchynov predicted after voting today, reports Espreso TV, citing the Verkhovna Rada press service.

According to Turchynov, the government will form the new majority, and Ukraine, in his view, will embark on a path of renewal and the creation of a new, strong, and independent state. “The special elections are being held and afterwards serious efforts will be made to revamp the Ukrainian government,” he said.

“We do not yet know what (political) forces will cross the 5 percent barrier today, but by tonight, thanks to the exit polls, the structure of the future parliament will be known,” he said.

Turchynov is convinced that elections in Ukraine will be held honestly, transparently, without fraud, and that law enforcement agencies “will respond severely” to any violations of election laws.

He also noted that the recently adopted amendments to the election law have significantly increased the liability for fraud and other violations.

When asked if he was ready to head up the new Verkhovna Rada, Turchynov answered that the new parliamentary majority will itself determine the leadership of the parliament.
