Volodymyr Parasyuk will run for parliament as an independent candidate in a majoritarian Lviv constituency.

Volodymyr Parasyuk – activist of the Revolution of Dignity, commander of the 4th company in the Dnipro battalion – announced on his FB page that he had decided to run for a seat in the Verkhovna Rada.

I’ve decided to run for parliament. We prepared all the documents yesterday. I’m currently on my way to Kyiv to submit them to the Central Electoral Commission.” wrote Parasyuk.

I hesitated a lot, as I heard different opinions. I had to choose between “one man in the field is not a warrior”, “once again a whole bunch of old politicians, regionnaires, will sneak back in; there will be no one to work with”, “if you don’t run for elections, you’re jumping off halfway.” he said.

Parasyuk added that he will be running as an independent candidate in a majoritarian constituency.

I will fight for a Ukraine that we stood for on the Maidan, that we’re defending in the eastern regions – a strong, independent and rich country with a developed civil society, free of corruption and, most importantly, a country without war and with a firm position with regard to the occupying power.” said Parasyuk.

ZAXID.NET has confirmed that Parasyuk will run in the 122th constituency (Zhovkivsky and Yavorivsky Districts). Another candidate, Taras Voznyak – political scientist, founder and chief editor of the independent cultural journal JI – is also standing for election in this district from Petro Poroshenko’s Bloc. In 2012, Vasyl Pazynyak, representing Batkivshchyna, won the election in this constituency as the united opposition candidate.

Volodymyr Parasyuk rose to fame after he delivered an emotional statement from the Maidan stage on February 21, whereby he rejected the terms of the agreement entered into by the opposition leaders and ex-President Yanukovych. Parasyuk then delivered an ultimatum – either Yanukovych resigns, or Parasyuk’s group storms Mezhyhirya at 10:00 am the next day. The next morning, it was reported that Yanukovych had fled from Kyiv.
