Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day in Ukrainian

Dalia Grybausakite, President of Lithuania, issued a greeting to the Ukrainian people on the 23d anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, 24 August 2014, in the Ukrainian language.

Dear people of Ukraine, 23 years ago Ukraine showed the world that Ukrainians create their country by themselves. Protecting your freedom and your country is the responsibility of every person. Lithuania won its freedom a quarter of a century ago. The unity of people and refusal to allow foreign powers to govern our land helped us.

You, Ukrainians, also chose the European path, and each day fight for the right to live in a democratic and independent country. I wish you the unity, strength, and determination to go through your chosen path. From all the Lithuanian people, I congratulate you once again. Let peace return to Ukraine as fast as possible.

Dear Ukrainians. I congratulate you on the Day of Independence. Glory to Ukraine!
