Surrounded military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine break out of the encirclement by the Russian army

The Ukrainian Armed Forces forces, who were surrounded by Russian and terrorist forces on the Russian border, broke out of the encirclement and were re-unified with the main forces. A source within the ATO Headquarters confirmed this information to the LigaBusinessInform News Agency.

According to the source, the military operation to break out of the encirclement was carried out simultaneously from two sides – the main units advance from the side of the Saur-Mohyla (Donetsk Oblast), opening up a corridor, while the besieged units of the Ukrainian army advance in an array from the the side of the border regions.  Due to these joint actions the Armed Forces of Ukraine were able to break out of the encirclement and to re-join the main units.

The source noted that it was the Armed Forces of Ukraine and border guards, who were surrounded in the Dolzhanske, Diakove and Chervonopartyzansk regions, located in the Luhansk Oblast.  The forces group consisting of the sub-units of 72nd, 24th and 51st mechanized brigade, as well as the 79th air mobile brigade, and the 3rd special units regiment and border guards left the encirclement.

Overall more than 1,000 Ukrainian servicemen and border guards left the area of encirclement. The soldiers moved out on their own technical equipment, destroying everything that couldn’t be taken with them.  Ukrainian journalist, Yurii Butuzov, mentions that five border guards were killed and three soldiers wounded.

ATO Headquarters confirmed that Saur-Mohyla (Donetsk Oblast) is under full control of the ATO forces.  However, the terrorists will now be able to freely cross the territory across a considerable segment of the Ukraine-Russia border.
