Dmitry Tymchuk’s Military Blog: Summary – July 15, 2014

Brothers and sisters!

Here’s the Summary for July 15, 2014 (for previous summary, please see Summary for July 14).

The bad news:

1. The successes of the ATO forces, which we cheered until just after the end of the “ceasefire,” have changed into “trench warfare.”

The main reason is that by saving its terrorists in Donbas from total defeat, Moscow resorts to every conceivable and inconceivable international crime. This includes the deployment of heavy weaponry to Ukraine (now increasingly so, alongside their military personnel and combat crews), and the direct fire support of insurgents from the territory of the Russian Federation–at the positions of our border control guards and Armed Forces.

I don’t know why we are so stubbornly ashamed to call a spade a spade and officially state that there is a war by Russia against Ukraine. Otherwise, it comes to the point of absurdity.

Here today, for example, the RNBO [National Security and Defense Council] came up with a puzzle. The town of Snizhne in Donetsk Oblast [region] was hit with an airstrike. Our aviation did not even rise into the air [today]. Experts at the ATO headquarters argue that terrorists have no a priori aviation at their disposal. [So] here’s the question: who could have inflicted this blow? The RNBO coined the term, an “unknown aircraft.” So whose plane can this be, if not the ATO forces’ or the insurgents’, how many options are left? Meanwhile, 11 civilians were killed …

Until we call black, black, and the war a war, the theater of the absurd will continue.

2. From the same series…dances continue around France’s delivery of the “Mistral” helicopter carriers to Putin. The position of Paris: since things between Ukraine and Russia are all well, Madame la Marquise, why should we give up the contract?

The bottom line is that the West cannot supply weapons to Ukraine because it is prohibited [from doing so] by exporter codes of conduct–as in, this is a zone of conflict, [and] weapons cannot be sold here. And Russia, which started and is waging this war, from the point of view of international law has not the slightest relationship to the conflict!

If we can force the international community to recognize that Russia is waging a war against Ukraine–the question of a ban on deliveries of military and dual-purpose goods by civilized nations to Russia will be solved by itself. The one who sells even a cartridge case to Putin [will be considered a] criminal.

3. In Russian cities, local authorities are openly holding send-off ceremonies for “volunteers,” as well as those openly recruited by the military commissariats, for good money, to the war in Ukraine. Today, such a ceremony was held in Samara.

I very much hope that every one of the mercenaries, whom the Russian freaks applauded today in Samara, returns home–to the last. In beautiful zinc containers. Although not quite complete.

This was stated by the head of Gasprom, Oleksiy Miller during the first visit to Russia of the new Vice-Chairman of the Eurocommission on Energy, Marosha Shefhovych chovych. Miller related to Shefchovych the new position under consideration by the Russian side: the Ukrainian transit route will be transferred to Turkey and Europe should hurry to build appropritae gas transportable pipes in order to receive this gas in a new location which will be the point of release and delivery of the gas on the border of Turkey and Greece. Miller again affirmed that the project "Southern Stream" is closed. "The Gas flow Turkish Stream is the only route through which one can deliver 63 million cubic meters of Russian gas which are untill now still being transited through Ukraine. There are no other possibilities. Our European partners are informed about this and now their task is to create a necessary gas-transportation infrastructure from the border of Turkey and Greece," he stated.

Shefrovych in his turn stated that the decision of Gasprom evokes a reaction of surprise on the part of the ound outEurocommission: "Today we discovered that that gas which is transported through Ukraine – that amount will re-directed through a new pipe system. This concerns relatively large quantities of gas, which, certainly, are not needed neither in Turkey, nor in countries of South-Easter Europe," he told the journalists.

January 2 – Pro-Russian terrorists of the so-called "DNR" are mobilizing underage children into their gangs. This was announced by ATO spokesman Andriy Lysenko during the traditional Friday briefing: "According to the reconnaisance, with the goal of completing the evident gang formations, which the leadership of the so-called "DNR" is carrying out on the occuppied territories of the so-called "volunteer" mobilization of the local residents between the age of 16-18," he said.

Lysenko reminded that the involvement of under-age children in participating in the army actions and army services is a deep violation of the International Humanitarian Legal Law, especially Article 38 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children.

Janaury 1 – In 2014 Russia established a series of anti-records. The gross national product of Russia, as of November 2014, for the first time since 2009 went into a minus level, the decrease constituted 0.5%.

This is not the only anti-record of the year – on December 15th, the exchange rate of a ruble to he dollar of the year had n a few hours decreased more than 8.5%. Until that moment the Russian money from the beginningof the year had devalued almost twice the amount.

The devaluation of the Russian ruble was preceeded by the lowering of gas prices throughout five months – due to the strengthening of the sanctions by EU and USA and Russian "anti-sanctions".

The decisions of the countries of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to not decrease the quota of procuring gas, deteriorated the situation. After that the price for raw materials decreased, speeeding up the loss of capital from Russia and the inflation of the ruble.

The gold currency reserves of Russia continued to decrease, while the rating of support for Putin's actions, increased. This year the ministry of the Economic Development of Russia examined the official prognosis about the inflation of the ruble three times. The beginning prognosis to the end of the year was increased almost twice – from 4.8% to 9%. Realistically, as the Russian Minister of Finances Anton Syluanov stated on December 25th, "according to the year's summary, most probably the inflation will quickly rise to 11.5%, and possibly even somewhat higher."
