Terrorists attacked a penal colony in Luhansk Oblast and helped eight prisoners escape

Militants of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DNR) helped eight prisoners escape from the penal colony in Slovianoserbsk, as the chairman of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine Serhiy Starenkyi wrote on his FB.

“The terrorists who call themselves representatives of the self-proclaimed “DNR” assaulted the penal colony number 60 in Slovianoserbsk of Luhansk Oblast. 20 people in two vans took part in the attack. Sentries on two obseravtion towers were fired at, the attackers tried to destroy the main enclosure using grenade launchers. Towers were smoked by using flammable mixture and grenades. The sentries opened fire in response,” wrote Starenkyi.
According to him, because all the guards of the penal colony were fending off the attack, eight prisoners escaped by climbing over the main fence. After the convicts overcame the fence under cover of the militants’ fire, the terrorists retreated.
An investigation is underway. There were no injuries among the staff.
