Ukraine’s Enemies In Europe

By Artem Bidenko: Political Scientist; Expert in Marketing Communications; Member of the Central Leadership Council of Ukrainian Platform

Aggression by the Russian Federation is limited not just to the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine. This has truly become an information war; as events get portrayed into the minds of the world community. Realizing the vagueness and weakness of its position,The Kremlin is desperately mobilizing all of its lobbying resources; to persuade various radical European organizations to support it.

Unfortunately, European Parliament voting results from 17 April 2014, on a Resolution on Russian pressure on Eastern Partnership countries – and in particular on the destabilisation of eastern Ukraine – has confirmed that not all members of the international community appear to want peace and the rule of law.

As if mesmerized by the vibrantly anti-fascist rhetoric coming out of Moscow, far-left and far-right parties alike are mistaking Russian aggression for a manifestation of national strength. Notable among the 49 MEPs who supported the current, criminal foreign policy of the Russian Federation are: Nick Griffin (BNP), Nigel Farage (United Kingdom Independence Party), Cornelia Ernst (Die Linke), Jean-Marie Le Pen (Front National), Philip Clayes (Vlaams Belang), Franz Obermayr (FPÖ), Ewald Stadler (Die Reformkonservativen), Willy Meyer (Izquierda Unida), Krisztina Morvai (Jobbik), and others.  Gerhard Schroeder, the former Chancellor of Germany and long-time Putin supporter, is a close friend of the President of the Russian Federation.  Alex Salmond, leader of the Scottish National Party, noted that Putin is “effective” and “has restored a substantial part of Russian pride”; just as Russian paramilitariesbegan their illegal annexation of Ukrainian Crimea.

We are concerned about such inappropriate reactionsbyMEPs and other politicians; and demand the imposition of sanctions against supporters of Russian policies. In fact, unless we hear apologies we insist on the aforesaid politicians being banned from entering Ukraine: further, we propose to invigorate a far-reaching debate among EU countries about the dangers of popularizing fascist, militaristic ideology and aggressive Russian propaganda inside Europe. We cannot idly stand by, and from now on we will report on the enemies of Ukraine within Europe – individuals who choose to oppose Ukraine’s future.

We believe that democratic forces in Europe are concerned about the rising power of radical groups; and that they are willing to support international security in the future.
