Taruta explains consequences of separatism

Serhiy Taruta

The head of the Donetsk Oblast State Administration, Serhiy Taruta, urged mayors and district heads to explain the consequences of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic” to their constituents.

He made his comments during a meeting with mayors and heads of the district administration in the Donetsk Oblast, reports Ukrainska Pravda, April 23, citing the news outlet Ostrov.

“Our industry functions on global markets. Any formations of so-called republics mean territories that are not recognized and subject to all the sanctions, including restrictions on travel and the impossibility of selling anything anywhere. Ordinary citizens must understand this,” Taruta explained.

“It means the following: no pension payments for anyone for two months, since funds will not be available. Miners will not receive wages, because there will be no markets for the coal. All beneficiaries, including mothers with children and the disabled, will not receive their benefits because there will be no money and no income,” he said.

“We do not consume our own production, with the possible exception of agricultural and food products. Everything else is sold outside the Donetsk Oblast,” he concluded, adding that words are the major weapon in current conditions.
