Sloviansk separatists announce a hunt for people who speak Ukrainian

Sloviansk separatists announce a hunt for people who speak Ukrainian, said the leader of the separatists Vyacheslav Ponomarev.

He asked local residents to report to “the people’s formation” on any suspicious individual in the city, “especially those who speak the Ukrainian language,” according to a correspondent of “Ukrainska Pravda” on location in Sloviansk.

Ponomarev also promised that the local media will publish a phone number to report “suspicious individuals.” In addition, Ponomarev said that the city had banned the opposition political forces “UDAR,” “Svoboda,” “Batkivshchyna” as well as campaigning for them.

The leader of the separatists announced that on 22 April, the “first meeting of the city council” would be held and that on May 11 the city would hold a referendum on federalisation and the Russian language.

Earlier it was reported that the Sloviansk separatists confirmed that they are holding the mayor Olena Shtepa in custody.
