Ukraine suspects Russian involvement in mass killings

Ukraine suspects Russian involvement in mass killings
Valentyn Nalyvaychenko, head of the Security Service of Ukraine

The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Valentyn Nalyvaychenko, says there are indications that the Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) was involved in the mass killings in Kyiv. He announced his findings during a press conference on Thursday, April 4, reports Ukrainska Pravda.

According to Nalyvaychenko, in December 2013, 26 members of the Russian FSB were present on the training ranges of the Security Service of Ukraine, and 6 employees were present in mid-January.

Nalyvaychenko has asked the Russian government to explain what these people were doing there as well as their ranks and positions.

“We have reasonable grounds to believe that the same groups that were present on one of the training ranges of the Security Service of Ukraine participated in the planning and implementation of the activities of the so-called anti-terrorist operation,” he said.

According to Nalyvaychenko, the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Yakymenko, had personally ordered that the Russian groups receive not only separate lodging and security but also government passes. “Yakumenko himself repeatedly came to meet with these groups” Nalyvaychenko said.

“It is essential that we provide the General Prosecutor prompt and legal answers from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on the following: the composition of these groups, their rank, and, most important, what they were doing here,” he said.

Additionally, Nalyvaychenko stated that on January 20, at the Hostomel and Zhulyany airports, transport aircraft landed from Chkalovsk, Russia, which delivered 5,100 kg of explosives, special equipment and additional weapons to put down the protests on Maidan.
