ukraina-kryim-kartaOnly 6% of Ukrainians believe that Crimea should be separated from Ukraine and 85% are in favor of preserving Crimea within Ukraine. The vast majority of Ukrainians support preservation of current borders, according to the results of the Razumkov Centre survey that were presented today at a press conference and reported by the UNIAN.

According to the survey, 46% of respondents think that Crimea region should remain a part of Ukraine with the current autonomous status, 30% think it should be part of Ukraine with extended autonomy, 9% think that it should remain within Ukraine with the same status as other regions. 2% of respondents did not care about the situation and 7% could not answer.

When asked if the differences between East and West of Ukraine can give rise to the break up of these regions into separate states or become part of the other states, only 19% of the respondents said yes.

71% of Ukrainians do not believe that such differences between the people in the East and the West exist, and for 10% said it was difficult to tell.

The survey was conducted by the Razumkov Center on March 5-10. 2008 respondents aged 18 and over from all regions of Ukraine participated in the survey.
