The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has offered a position to Andrey Zubov, the Russian professor who had been fired for criticizing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Kyiv National University announced on its Facebook page on March 4.
“On behalf of the University Administration, we are issuing an invitation to Professor Andrey Zubov, professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), for the position of professor at the Institute of International Relations (at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) — a partner of MGIMO. We look forward to seeing in our ranks this outstanding historian and scholar and honest human being,” the Kyiv University announcement states.Early on March 4, Professor Andrey Zubov confirmed that he had, indeed, been fired for his antiwar statements, especially for his recent article in the Russian newspaper “Vedomosti.” In this article, the historian analyzed the situation in Crimea at the start of the Russian invasion and pointed to similarities between certain aspects of the current crisis between Russia and Ukraine and the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938. Most notably, Zubov urged the public to say “no” to “crazy, completely unnecessary aggression.”
Zubov, aged 62, is a doctor of history and author of five scholarly books and close to 150 scholarly papers.
