Interior troops are storming Maidan

Tuesday, February 18, 2014, 21:38

At 20:00 Kyiv time, interior affairs troops began storming the Independence Square (Maidan) from the side of the European Square and Instytutska St. From the side of the European square, close to 20:00 Kyiv time, Berkut and other interior forces assumed a combat formation. Behind their backs, there are three water cannons that are soaking a barricade on Khreschatyk and the activists on it.

They began to break the barricade, despite the fact that there were people on it. The troopers are using flush-bang grenades. At the same time, the interior troops are walking downstairs past the October Palace and heading towards the barricades on Instytutska Steet.

There is a call from the stage for women and older people to go behind the stage. Two armored personnel carriers drove to Maidan but one of them, according to journalist Svyatoslav Tseholko, was set on fire. A tent is on fire under the Independence Monument. People are praying and singing out loud the Ukrainian anthem.
