Zabuzhko: New Provocations Against Maidan to be Expected During Sochi Olympics

In an interview to Espreso.TV the renowned Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko commented on recent events in the country and described her most recent visit to Maidan. Zabuzhko, who does not conceal her support for EuroMaidan, also shared her predictions for the political crisis in Ukraine and her views on the strategy Ukraine must adopt to win.

Have the recent events on Maidan inspired you to write another book?

I was deeply impressed by how our pure, sincere people have stood up to the attempts by this corrupt government to crush them. I have been feeling profound pain since the beginning of the events on Maidan. Obviously, there are creative ideas that will eventually translate into something significant, but I would rather not share my creative plans.

What recent artistic event on Maidan impressed you the most?

The Ukrainian House hosted an art marathon. It included the performance by Telyuk sisters who sang a song with my lyrics. You should have seen those worn out, exhausted guards of the Maidan. They woke up, perked up, and listened to the artists with rapture. It was an unforgettable experience.

To which Soviet political leader would you compare Yanukovych?

Actually, he falls short when compared to almost any Soviet leader. He is like a Third World puppet who has been tasked with violently suppressing everything that he doesn’t like. He is like some kind of ‘comrade Kakoyte’ [of South Ossetia – ed].

Is it true that Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Ukrainian Сhoice party, filed a lawsuit against you and failed to even inform you about it?

Yes. The trial took place without my knowledge and without serving me the summons. The court decision was concocted haphazardly, riddled with the most incredible mistakes. This episode truly deserves a separate chapter in the history of this frightening winter. Furthermore, it served as the first rehearsal for this type of sentencing without notice. Indeed, this happened a week before Black Thursday when that package of the oppressive laws was voted in.

How long do you think the political crisis in Ukraine will last?

Let’s be realistic, the situation is only beginning. The Kremlin scenario for the partition of the country has been up their sleeve since 2004. During this time it has been developed and perfected. What lies ahead for us in the beginning is a complex wave of post-modern warfare that includes massive disinformation. This practice of hysterical state-orchestrated terror is being actively implemented right now.  In other words, people are being psychologically manipulated. And it’s being carried out consistently and systematically  in order to divide and incite people and keep society near the boiling point. Then at a given moment a spark will set everything off.

What is your prediction for further development of events?

Most likely, the next provocations will occur during the Olympic games in Sochi.  In other words, the technology of induced madness will continue to be implemented. There are active efforts to troll the people, the government and the opposition. Everything is muddled. And it’s unclear who trolls who. But everybody is trolling somebody. The result is a completely disoriented Ukrainian population that wants everything to end and to return to some zone of normalcy. We’re being deliberately drawn into this matrix. This entire scenario is an enormous provocation with a very clear goal: to drag Ukraine into the Russian sphere of influence. That is, they are pushing toward a civil war or civil conflict followed by the partition of the country. This is why we must understand very clearly that we are a nation under enemy attack and we need to act like a nation that has been invaded. Only then we will win.
